What Does The Quran Say About Homosexuality

There is no doubt that homosexuality is a great sin in Islam. Which Allah does not allow nor will He be pleased with those who practice it. Anyone who claims otherwise will be considered a blatant misrepresentation.

The primary Quranic story often referenced in discussions regarding homosexuality is the narrative of the people of Lot (or “Lut” in Arabic). In the Quran, the people of Lot are condemned for their immoral behavior, which is commonly understood to include same-sex relations among other transgressions.

The story highlights the consequences that befell the people of Lot due to their disobedience and immoral behavior, but it does not explicitly elaborate on the nature of their actions.

The practice of homosexuality is not clear in the Quran. It arises from the Absolute.

وَلُوْطًا اِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهٓ ٖ اَتَاْتُوْنَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُمْ بِـهَا مِنْ اَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِيْنَ (80)

And Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit lewdness no people anywhere have ever committed before you?”

اور لوط کو بھیجا جب اس نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ کیا تم ایسی بے حیائی کرتے ہو کہ تم سے پہلے اسے جہان میں کسی نے نہیں کیا۔

One of the verses that is often interpreted in relation to this narrative is in Surah Al-A’raf (7:80-84), which mentions the people of Lot and their deviation from the natural order.

Additionally, Surah Hud (11:77-83) and Surah An-Naml (27:54-58) also make reference to the people of Lot and their wrongdoing.

What is Homosexuality?

Homosexuality means having intercourse with males in the back passage. This was the action of the accursed people of the Prophet of Allah Lut (peace be upon him). In shari’ah terminology it refers to inserting the tip of the penis into the anus of a male.
