10 Major Sins in Islam

In Islam, major sins are referred to as “Kaba’ir” (singular: “Kabira”), which means the gravest sins. The following are some examples of major sins in Islam:

1. Associating partners with Allah (Shirk)

The biggest sin in Islam is to associate partners with Allah. It is considered as the only unforgivable sin.

“Indeed, whoever associates partners with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode is the Fire.” And the wrongdoers have no helper. [Al-Maida 5:72]

2. Murder

Taking someone’s life without a just cause is a major sin in Islam.

“And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his punishment is Hell, in which he will abide forever, and upon him is the wrath and curse of Allah, and a great punishment is prepared for him.” An-Nisa 4:93

3. Adultery or Fornication

Engaging in sexual intercourse outside the bounds of marriage is considered a major sin in Islam.

4. Consuming Interest (Riba)

Usury or interest-bearing transactions are considered a major sin in Islam.
